Noun



What is Noun ?
Noun is a part of speech that denotes a person, a place, a thing, an idea, a quality or an emotion. The English word noun is derived from the Latin word “nomen” which means “name”. Every language has words that are nouns. Examples :

1.       Person
2.       Place
3.       Things
4.       Idea
5.       Quality
6.       Emotions etc.


Kinds of nouns :


There are five kinds of noun

1.        Proper Noun
2.       Common Noun
3.       Collective Noun
4.       Material Noun
5.       Abstract Noun

  
  1. 1. Proper Noun :
A proper noun is the name of a particular person, place or thing.
For Example :  a. Tagore
b. Delhi
c. India
d. Holi
e. Diwali

2.       Common Noun :
A Common Noun is the beings with a capital letter. Adjectives formed from Proper nouns also begin with Capital letters.
For Example :a. Man
b. Hat
c. Chair
d. Girl
e. Book

3.       Collective Noun :
A Collective Noun denotes several persons or things persons or things regarded as one group.
For Example :a. Team
b. Class
c. Friend
d. Family
e. Crowd

4.       Material Noun :
Material noun is the name of material or substance of which things are made.
For Example : a. Milk
b. Gold
c. Wheat
d. Rice
e. Silver

5.       Abstract Noun :
An Abstract Noun is the name of a quality, state, action. An art or science :
For Example :a. Quality : Truth, Beauty
b. State : Youth, Childhood
c. Action : Hatred, Theft
d. Art : Painting, Photography
e. Science : Mathematics, Physics
